Spotlight on The GFPD – Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders and the Wompans Behind It!
Suite 287 at Wompa might just be one of the most impactful corners of our community. It’s where Madeleine Bryce and Leslie Umfleet run The Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders (GFPD) – a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by rare genetic conditions known as peroxisomal disorders.
Founded on the principles of advocacy, research, and community, GFPD is headquartered right here at Wompa. From this space, they raise funds to support families during their often-complex diagnostic journeys, champion cutting-edge medical research, and work tirelessly to improve healthcare outcomes for those navigating life with rare diseases.
Madeleine and Leslie are seasoned professionals in the world of nonprofit management and event planning. Not only are they doing important work day-to-day, but they’re also eager to share their talents with the Wompa family—offering to help any fellow Wompans plan or execute events.
When asked what they love most about being here, they both agreed:
“The energy is unmatched—we always feel better when we’re working at the office.”
Want to hang out? Keep an eye out for their laid-back Dog Park Fridays at Joe Station Dog Park. No RSVP needed—just show up with your pup (or your love of pups). They’re also working on a holiday market to elevate local art and raise funds for the GFPD—stay tuned!
Outside of work, these two share a love for gardening, kayaking, live music, and—unsurprisingly—dogs. Their pack includes Riley (a sweet senior cattle dog), Bo (a goofy poodle mix puppy), Frank Cannoli (a lovable cockapoo), and Fletcher (a soulful hound).
So if you’re walking down the hall and see their door open—take it as an invitation. Drop in, say hi, and learn more about the incredible work being done at the GFPD.
