Kern & Burn 🔥Friday, October 24th at WOMPA Tulsa
Kern & Burn is Tulsa’s only fast-paced design competition and cultural phenomenon!
Its 5th annual event will be hosted on Friday, October 24th at WOMPA Tulsa under the theme
of ‘Malice in Wompaland.’ Eight teams of designers and creatives will band together to crank
out their best work under the tightest and most impossible deadlines–fighting their way through
three fiery rounds of audience banter and fierce judgement in order to claim victory, cash
money, and bragging rights for a year.
As always, there are plenty of derailing surprises in store–for both the design teams and all of
those in attendance. Due to its outrageous atmosphere, the event––annually selling out––has
gained attention and attendance, becoming a place for people to cheer on friends, co-workers
and comrades.

Launched in 2018 as a fundraiser event for the Art Directors Club of Tulsa, it quickly ignited into
an independent phenomenon that has gained traction across Tulsa, while turning heads
throughout national design and advertising communities. With some saying that it's “an
experience that feels like a stick of dynamite,” K&B is more than an event—it’s a cultural
spectacle you have to experience firsthand to truly understand.
Kern & Burn was founded to incite and elevate Tulsa’s creative community. Built to break
professional creatives out of their monotonous daily routines, Kern & Burn has become the
proving ground for seasoned and up and coming creatives in and around the Tulsa area. As the
event grows, so does its influence. With more people coming from out of state, including
creative meccas like Los Angeles and New York, Kern & Burn helps put Tulsa and its creatives
on the map.
Our judges not only help crown our winners but bring thoughtful critique to the chaos. This year,
we’re stoked to have a diverse jury:
●Chris Ellis: A Group Strategy Director out of TBWA/Chiat/Day LA with a wide range of
experience from BMW, Adidas, and Jack Daniels to name a few.
●Daniel Johnson: A Brooklyn-based artist with a diverse practice based in photography,
language, film. His work, which looks at how technology shapes identity within popular
culture, has shown nationally and internationally in group exhibitions and video festivals
in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo (JP), Berlin (DE), Tel Aviv (IL), and Bratislava (SK),
among others.
●Jonden Jackson: Tulsa based creative designer and developer. Co-Owner and Sr.
Designer at Forefathers Group.
Proceeds continue to support the Art Directors Club of Tulsa. Learn more about their ongoing
